Inclement Weather and Remote Learning Days
Sacred Heart School Information regarding Inclement Weather and Remote Learning Days
Sacred Heart School will follow the same snow day procedure this year as Spencer Schools. Our calendars match so that we have consistency for our families, and allows us to utilize the Spencer Schools transportation system.
For this year, the Iowa Department of Education is allowing schools to have remote learning on days when weather conditions do not allow schools to physically be in session.
Remote learning days will count towards the Department of Education’s 1080 Instruction Hours requirement. This change will prevent students from making up snow days at the end of the school year.
On inclement weather days, Sacred Heart will notify you as to if the particular snow day will be used as a remote learning day. Spencer Schools will also continue to post school delays and remote learning days on local radio and television stations as in the past.
Teachers will work to prepare students for remote learning days, so that they know what to expect. Teachers will work with each individual student, allowing up to three days to complete assignments given on Snow Day/Remote Learning days. Students will not be required to get online for a virtual session with their teacher during these days, as we understand that scheduling may not allow for it with parents' work and child care.
Teachers will post/email the expectations for Remote Learning for that day by 9:00 AM. Teachers will be available throughout the day via email.
Iowa winters are not always predictable, and there is a possibility that a snow storm would be completely unexpected and students are home without the necessary materials needed from school for remote learning (example: chromebook and/or internet access). If this was to happen, it would be considered a Snow Day and not a Remote Learning day, and the day would need to be made up, like we did in years past.
